Children's Book Redesign
Illustration | Layout | Typography
The Challenge: Pick a children's book and redesign several pages in two different styles. For the first, stick with a more traditional book page layout and illustrations. For the second, make the layout less traditional and more experimental. Include in your designs a cover, endpaper, cover page, table of contents, and at least 10 pages of the book.
First Adaptation
For this project, I chose to redesign "Wildwood" by Colin Meloy. For the first adaptation, I made illustrations that were whimsical and fit the adventurous feel of the book. I also chose a title font that was rough and woodsy, since the book takes place in the forest. For the book pages, I kept the layout simple and traditional, with a chapter page featuring an illustration before each chapter.
Second Adaptation
For the second adaptation, I made the illustrations a little more funky while keeping with the fun, outdoor-centered style of the book. To make the book a bit less traditional, I created an illustration of tree with flowers, plants, and critters that reflect elements of the story. If I were to remake the whole book, each page would have a tree with different characters.
